Norfolk produce with a focus on sustainable farming

The Wright family have been farming since 1861 when Samuel Wright first started off with twenty eight acres. The family settled in Moulton St Mary, with his son, then his grandson Denny Wright taking the farm forward, building up a name for himself through his passion for breeding beef cattle and Suffolk Punch horses.

M D Wright and partners was formed by Michael Denny Wright and his two sons Stephen and John once they returned from agricultural college in the 1970’s and between them they built the farm up to what it is today. Sophie and Oliver have since joined the partnership. They are the 6th generation of the family to farm.

Sustainable farming in Norfolk

Norfolk's Finest Lamb

The farm’s arable rotation consists of wheat, barley, sugar beet and oilseed rape. The wheat and barley goes to local maltsters for brewing, and the sugar beet to Cantley factory to be processed into sugar. The farm also runs a flock of 500 breeding ewes predominantly grazed on Halvergate marshes. The flock consists of Welsh Mules, Welsh Halfbreds, and Aberfield cross. These are put to Texel, Blue Texel, or New Zealand Romney rams to produce some of Norfolk’s finest and tastiest grass fed lamb.

Passionate about sustainability

M D Wright and partners are passionate about promoting biodiversity and a wide range of habitats for wildlife on the farm. Grey partridges, turtle doves, water voles, brown hares, skylarks, yellowhammers and barn owls to name but a few can be found, from environments created and maintained through sustainable and good farming practice.
